DETAILS article: COOL OR TOOL?: THE FEDORA

THE FEDORA IS UBIQUITOUS AGAIN. BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU WEAR IT AT A QUIRKY ANGLE DOESN’T MEAN YOU’RE CHANNELING SINATRA ~ Courtney Colavita

Courtney Colavita gives a really good explanation of some things to be aware of when wearing a fedora. She asks the opinions of a few fashion directors, getting their take on the fashion statement. I like their feedback, however I can’t buy into this all the way. But wait… aren’t fedoras cool??!!

Ok, here’s my take on the fedora… I HATE them on ALL GUYS who AREN’T FAMOUS…. and even when famous guys wear them, they still aren’t that great! I will be honest, when they first came back into style a few years ago, I bought one. I only wore it in the morning to grab coffee but even that was a struggle. So why can famous actors & musicians pull off the look? Well…because they can!  They have the “Fuck you…I am cool and can pull this off” attitude.  Just because Johnny Depp & Jason Mraz can pull it off, doesn’t mean that every “douche bag” who thinks of himself as equally cool should start wearing one. I’m gonna be sick if I see one more guy in a fedora with his Affliction shirt on … I mean WTF!  Also, when they sell fedoras at Target, that’s when you know they are not cool anymore! … I love Target btw!

So, if you are “That Guy” then listen up! Let it go … seriously! Especially “That Guy” who has it tilted way to the side … IT’S DONE!! … IT’S OVER!! This again does not include famous people … Sinatra was bad ass wearing a fedora! Is this making any sense? Frank Sinatra can wear a fedora …not Frank Smith the barista at Starbucks!  Got it?  Good!

On a side note, girls in fedoras … so very hot!!! HAHA

Richard 5 “Hat” Rules:

  1. No Fedoras! Except famous people.
  2. No Sweat Marks! If your lid has dried white sweat stains … toss it!
  3. Do Not Tilt to One Side! Was cool, kind of, a few years back.
  4. No Tags! This might still be a cool urban thing, but it looks ridiculous!
  5. Keep it Simple! Over the top logos or any kind of design just looks like you are trying WAY too hard!
